Teaching Professionals Limited - Modern Slavery Statement 2024

Introduction

This statement is made on behalf of Teaching Professionals Limited (company registration no. 07119425) pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act (“the Act”) and constitutes the slavery and human trafficking statement in respect of our financial year ending 31 December 2023.

It continues to be a priority for Teaching Professionals Limited to ensure that we trade ethically, source responsibly and work to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking throughout our organisation and in our supply chain.

Organisational Structure

We are a provider of payroll and support solutions exclusively to educators and any agencies or end clients they are engaged through. These educators are employed by Teaching Professionals but will be working on assignments that have been sourced by third party recruitment agencies or education based clients in the UK.

Teaching Professionals is ultimately owned and controlled by the SmithCorp group of businesses (registration no. 07805942) with all internal employees being based in the UK. This statement is prepared independently of the SmithCorp group and is limited to the business activities of Teaching Professionals alone.

Our Business and Supply Chain

Teaching Professionals employ agencies workers (educators) who either come to us directly or have been referred by their recruitment agency or the end client with whom they are working. We register our educators as employees and all will be issued with a control. As part of registration, we complete a compliant onboarding process including checking right to work, verifying identity and bank account verification.

Once registered, our educators have access to all statutory benefits for which they are eligible and for the duration of their employment.

We enter into separate contracts with our educators employment agencies or end clients to provide our services for the duration of their assignment.

As part of the supply arrangement, the agencies or end client will make payment to us for the educators services under the assignment and we shall be responsible for the correct accounting, deductions and onward payment of all tax, NIC’s and other statutory payments or deductions.

Net pay and any valid expenses are then paid directly into the educators own bank account and which is separately verified through banking software.

We may also procure the services of third parties to assist us with the operation of our business and the services on offer to our workers.

We require all third-party suppliers to confirm their compliance with the Act and that they have suitable policies in place to monitor their ongoing compliance with anti-slavery and human trafficking.

Policies and Procedures

We will ensure we have appropriate policies in place that underpin our commitment to ensure that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our business. We will continually review and update all policies as necessary.

Training

To ensure a high level of understanding of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains and our business, we provide training to all internal staff as part of induction and annually thereafter.

Further Steps

Following a review of the effectiveness of the steps we have taken this year to ensure there is no slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains we intend to take the following steps to combat slavery and human trafficking:

  - Conduct further risk assessments to ensure any new risks are identify and addressed; and
  - Review internal policies to ensure their continued effectiveness and update as necessary to meet any new risks identified.
